Austin Marathons
Austin is a very active city, and running is an extremely popular pastime. It comes as no surprise, then, that the city plays host to numerous marathons, half-marathons and other running events throughout the year. If you're shopping for luxury homes in Austin and enjoy running, you're going to have plenty of opportunities to do so after settling in. Whether you select a home in Spanish Oaks or in one of the many other fine Austin-area communities, you shouldn't be too far from popular events like the Austin Marathon and the 3M Half Marathon, so lace up your sneakers and get ready for some fun!
Car2Go Austin Marathon Relay
Although this isn't a traditional marathon, it's a whole lot of fun. Instead of running the entire 26.2 miles yourself, you split up the activity with five other runners. Therefore, each member of your team will run 4.37 miles. In the event that you can't assemble a team but would like to participate, you can run 4.37 miles on the Whole Foods Market Loop instead. This event takes place in September and is open to people ages 12 and over. Afterwards, there's a Finish Line Festival that includes live music, booths and plenty to eat and drink.
3M Half Marathon
This event holds the distinction of being the oldest standalone half marathon in Austin, and it just celebrated its 20th anniversary. The north-to-south course is mostly downhill, so this is a great half marathon for people who are wary of steep inclines. It begins early in the morning, so it pays to live in a nearby community like Spanish Oaks so that you can arrive on time without a lot of hassle. This half marathon benefits schools throughout central Texas, so you can feel good about participating it.
Austin Marathon and Half Marathon
Whether you run in the full marathon or half marathon, you will never forget this incredible event. The course winds through some of the most famous and historic parts of Austin, including the University of Texas campus, Hyde Park, Allandale, Congress Avenue, the State Capital complex and Lady Bird Johnson Lake. 90 percent of the course is asphalt, and there are some gradual inclines along the way. More than 30 Austin bands are positioned around the course to motivate runners with an eclectic array of live music. When you're done, you can kick back, relax and party in the festival area, where there are food trucks, live performances and much more.
ZOOMA Texas Half Marathon
Although ZOOMA is an organization that promotes running for women, this event is open to men as well. It doesn't take place in Austin proper but in the outlying community of Bastrop. This area exemplifies what Texas Hill Country is all about, so you can expect some pretty hilly terrain across the 13.1 miles. The beautiful scenery is sure to keep your spirits up, and there's also the promise of the After Party Expo, where you will be treated to a massage and will be able to enjoy a variety of delicious foods and drinks.
ARC Decker Challenge
This event is coordinated by the Austin Runners Club, and it is, indeed, a challenge. The main reason is because the course winds up and over many fairly steep hills. It begins at the Travis County Expo Center and features miles of urban roadway. The post-race celebration is held at a nearby banquet hall. This event takes place in December, and registration opens up in the middle of the year. As with many running events, there is a limit to how many people can register, so make sure to do so early if you would like to participate.
If you like running, you're going to love living in Austin. Some of the best luxury homes in Austin are located within a short distance of downtown, which is where some of the most popular marathons and half marathons take place. Because Austin enjoys fairly warm weather all year long, there's no need to keep your workouts indoors if you don't want to. Many new communities in Austin have excellent trails where you can run right in your own backyard. The city is also studded with gorgeous parks and other areas with well-maintained trails. Whether you prefer trail running or enjoy running on paved paths, you should be able to find plenty of great places to run as you get to know the city. By participating in Austin marathons, you can meet other running enthusiasts and discover even more great places to run.
