Award Winning Golf at Spanish Oaks
Hailed as the #3 Best Golf Course in Texas by Golf Digest, Spanish Oaks Golf Club is a golfers paradise. Featuring a private 18-hole course designed by Bobby Weed, the golf course is located right in the heart of Spanish Oaks. It also features a practice facility that is located just west of the club. This is a great area to practice or warm up before venturing out to the real course. Another feature is the putting green, which is conveniently located between the first tee and the practice facility. Spanish Oaks Golf Club also comes with its own practice range.
One of the things that makes this golf course so impressive is the fact that the design incorporates much of the ruggedness that exists in the natural landscape of Texas Hill Country. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service also gave the Spanish Oaks Golf Club a “no-impact” designation for preserving over 10,000 acres of land, including the many ancient Spanish and Live Oaks.
Residents in a new home built by Spanish Oaks will be able to enjoy this award winning golf club just steps away from their front door. Golf is a great sport to enjoy with the entire family. Members at Spanish Oaks have access to open tee times, as well as their own caddies. The facility also includes a men’s and women’s lounge, a pro shop, as well as some wonderful dining options, both casual and formal.
Who is Bobby Weed?
Bobby Weed is an award winning golf course designer and builder. He is also a protégé of fellow designer, Pete Dye. Some of his most famous work includes the Mark Bostick Golf Course located at the University of Florida, as well as the Tournament Players Club courses, which are a chain of private and public golf courses that are operated by the PGA Tour. Bobby Weed is continually featured in many golf publications and their top golf course lists. In 2000, he was even featured by Golfdom Magazine as one of their People of the Year.
As a boy, Bobby learned to play golf. When he was a teenager he convinced his father to let him use their soybean field to build a driving range, since the local golf course didn’t have one. He completed most of the work by himself and more than thirty years later it still remains in his hometown.
During one summer, Bobby had an internship with the Amelia Island Plantation golf course. It was there he was introduced to Pete Dye, a famous golf course architect and a man who would become his mentor. Several years later, Bobby returned to Amelia Island Plantation to work under Pete Dye. Eventually he was placed as part of the crew at Hilton Head, South Carolina and later named as superintendent at Pete Dye’s Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass. Bobby Weed’s career steadily climbed up. In 1983 he was appointed by the PGA Tour to supervise all golf course design and construction. Then in 1987 he was promoted as Chief Designer of Design Services. This gave him a chance to work with many legendary golfers, who were able to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the course design. Some of these included world renowned golfers, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gene Sarazen. Since 1994 Bobby Weed has been working for his own company - Bobby Weed Golf Design - where he has had the opportunity to design and redesign for a list of impressive golf courses throughout the world.
