Lakeway Area Employers
Lakeway is an upscale resort town on the south shore of the beautiful Lake Travis. The majority of the residents are well educated with a median household income of approximately $100,000, which is twice the statewide figure. You won't find manufacturing jobs here, but these are available in Round Rock, which is the world headquarters for Dell Computer Corporation. A large number of federal, state, and county government positions are usually open in downtown Austin at any given time; the city is the capital of Texas, the county seat and one of Austin's largest employers. Likewise, there are no universities in Lakeway, but the University of Texas in Austin is a major employer in the area. Lakeway jobs tend to focus on providing services to the current population and building new homes to meet the housing demand from future residents. The availability of jobs changes over time, but the cited numbers reflect the openings in the fall of 2012.
Construction
The Lakeway Chamber of Commerce website lists 16 custom homebuilders. This is great news for the local economy. Builders need carpenters, roofers, electricians, plumbers, painters and landscapers. Lakeway was originally planned as a retirement and second-home community. The laid-back lifestyle appealed to retirees and vacationers. However, times have changed and it's now the choice for active homebuyers in the prime of their lives. Discerning buyers appreciate the resort atmosphere and relaxed ambiance of the area. Spanish Oaks is a stellar example of a modern community of Austin luxury homes being built in the region. This is one of the most desirable developments because residents can live in an area surrounded by more than 10,000 acres of untouched Texas Hill Country and still be within minutes of downtown Austin. The city of Lakeway is prepared to meet the challenges that arise from an increase in population.
Real Estate
Whenever you have a recovering real estate market, you'll find friendly real estate agents there to help. Lakeway is small enough that most of the professionals should know about new developments as well as older communities. Most brokers are willing to accept new agents into the company, and the business is certainly more rewarding under the current conditions when the economy and housing markets are recovering. Check the state requirements, and if you're interested, make an appointment to talk to one of the real estate brokers or developers about job possibilities. You could choose to specialize in a number of fields including pre-construction sales, re-sales, leasing and property management.
Healthcare
New residents mean a greater need for medical facilities to supplement the existing urgent care sites. The city responded and the Lakeway Regional Medical Center opened its doors in the spring of 2012. A recent search of the hospital's website listed 30 open positions covering a number of different types of jobs including directors, nurses, accountants, medical coders, technicians and clerks. Another Internet search uncovered 70 openings at the St. David's South Austin Medical Center on West Ben White Boulevard.
Financial
Wherever you find affluent people, you'll find financial institutions, and the Lakeway Chamber of Commerce has 19 members that are banks or credit unions. Each of these has at least one product or service that meets the needs of its clientele. Products include mortgage loans, personal loans, refinancing loans, home improvement loans, equity lines of credit, college loans, checking and savings accounts, private investment banking, business loans, car loans, lines of credit, credit cards and certificates of deposit. There's a smorgasbord of offerings, and it's up to the consumer to pick the one with the best rates and service.
Hospitality
Hospitality services include the resorts, spas, hotels and motels. The Lakeway Resort and Spa is a beautiful facility on the shores of Lake Travis, which at the current time has 10 openings ranging from managers to cooks. Lake Austin Spa Resort is another gorgeous lakefront spa, which also has 10 staff openings including guest service coordinator, fitness professional and masseuse.
Insurance
Insurance is big business in Lakeway, and 13 companies are members of the Lakeway Chamber of Commerce. Insurance agents can handle policies for homes, boats, cars, businesses, employee health coverage and personal life insurance. If you're interested in a career as an insurance agent, check the state requirements and speak to one of the local business owners about employment possibilities.
