The One World Theatre Venue
It may be the Capital of Texas, but to many, Austin is better known as the "Live Music Capital of the World." That is because the city is home to multiple live music venues, as well as many restaurants and cafes that play host to local and regional artists and musicians. Just a short drive from the Spanish Oaks community, The One World Theatre encompasses all that is Austin with its non-profit goal of inspiring and educating people of all ages about all things artistically and musically-related.
History and Outreach
The One World Theatre first opened in the summer of 1999. The theatre was founded by Hartt and Nada Stearns, who each recognize the value of musical education. The duo's original goal was to use the arts to unify their community – teaching people of all ages that world citizenship transcends race, religion and gender. The One World Theatre is the embodiment of those ideals, and continues to provide free show tickets to children and families as a part of community outreach programs, field trips and school shows.
Local Austin residents are privy to Camp One World each summer, which is open to children ages 5 to 18. During their week at camp, children learn the components involved with staging a full-scale musical production. They themselves audition for roles, learn roles and perform for friends and family at the end of camp. Activities are age appropriate and are in cooperation with the Missoula Children's Theatre. The youngest camp members spend their time completing crafts and musical activities, while older children memorize parts and refine their acting skills.
Live Performances and Shows
The One World Theatre has gained a reputation in Austin for its quality live performances and shows. A new line up of artists and musicians is released every season, and may include locally, regionally and nationally known performers. For example, the fall 2012 season includes an October performance by the legendary Brian McKnight, as well as Jo Dee Messina, Michael Grimm and Sinbad.
Other shows include live interpretations of popular children's storybooks, such as The Rainbow Fish and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Artist, Rolando Diaz, attends select musical performances to complete paint as music is performed. Because The One World Theatre is active in community arts education, Rolando auctions the stage-completed art pieces at the conclusion of each performance, and the proceeds benefit the One World Children's Outreach Program.
Private Events
INot only is The One World Theatre a great way to spend an evening, but is also a popular venue for private events. Though the theatre has been host to several types of parties and gatherings, it is especially preferred by brides and grooms for wedding and receptions. In fact, The One World Theatre was voted as the most romantic venue by The Austin Chronicle and as Austin's best wedding venue by Austin 360.
Panoramic views of the Austin Hill Country make the perfect backdrop for an outdoor ceremony, and the theatre itself is easily transformed into a memorable reception hall. Furthermore, there is no better place to host a live band, as the theatre's acoustics and built-in stage are both convenient and charming. The venue offers optional valet parking, an in-house bar, several catering options and a complete lighting package.
Location
Best of all, The One World Theatre's location is conveniently close to your new Austin luxury home in the Spanish Oaks community. In fact, once you exit the community to the north, you can follow Bee Cave Road approximately seven miles, and the venue will be located on the right hand side at 7701 Bee Cave Road.
