The Backyard Venue
Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World, and The Backyard Venue is perhaps the most famous live music venue in the city. The Austin Chronicle named it "Best Open Air Venue," and other local and national awards and recognition have since followed. From green sustainability measures to natural surroundings, this outdoor concert amphitheatre marries nature and music for an experience that concert-goers return for again and again.
How The Backyard Got Its Start
The Backyard first got its start in 1993 in Austin, Texas. The venue quickly grew into a popular destination for locals and not-so-locals who wanted a great show under the wide open skies of Texas. The original Backyard was made famous by famous faces – most notably, Willie Nelson.
The Backyard enjoyed many years of praise and success, and its popularity grew to national recognition. Eventually, patrons complained of space problems and urban development that detracted from the natural surroundings at The Backyard. Today, the venue is new and improved and located in Bee Caves, where famous headliners continue to entertain crowds of thousands.
Ambiance
The Backyard is unlike many other live music venues. Although it plays host to some of the biggest names in music, the vibe is decidedly comfortable and stress-free. Visitors and patrons of all ages are welcome at all Backyard events, and children under age five receive free admission.
The Backyard wants guests to be casual and relaxed, which is why blankets, cameras, beach towels and lighters are not only allowed, but welcome. Of course, festivals and concerts in Austin are not complete without food, which is why multiple local food vendors dish up tasty, crowd-pleasing favorites at each event. On-site bars are also available to keep visitors from toting coolers and heavy beverages around. What better reason to invite your new neighborhood friends to enjoy a relaxing evening of live entertainment in good company?
In keeping with Austin's eco-friendly ambitions, The Backyard encourages carpooling by providing free parking for vehicles that contain four or more people. Just be sure to dress comfortably, as parking is unpaved and the venue requires outdoor walking to enjoy performances.
Events
Events at The Backyard are as diverse as the people who visit them. Concert performances are the primary focus at the venue, although The Backyard also plays host to private events, fundraisers, charitable functions and festivals. The register of shows changes from season to season, but patrons are almost always sure to have a good time regardless of who the main act of the evening is.
Some events in particular are staples at The Backyard. For example, the ZZTop La Grange Fest is typically held in the fall, and for the 2012 season features ZZTop, Robert Randolph, The Family Band and other popular performers. Events and performances are regularly updated on The Backyard's webpage, and tickets are available for purchase in advance of every show through the venue's official ticket vendor, ExtremeTix.com. You can also stay up to date on the latest event information through The Backyard's Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Location
People travel from all over Texas and the United States to experience what The Backyard outdoor amphitheatre has to offer. But while getting there may require hours of flying, driving and urban traffic navigation for many of its visitors, as a Spanish Oaks resident living on the outskirts of Austin, the venue is only a few brief minutes away. That means that quite literally, The Backyard is practically in your very own backyard.
Its close proximity is yet another luxury that community homeowners grow accustomed to here in Austin. If you have been scouring Austin luxury homes for the perfect location, consider a new custom home just off of Bee Cave Road. With easy access to The Backyard and other local entertainment, you can't go wrong with the opulence and convenience of this development.
